This website is run jointly by the Christian Chaplains to the University of York. As the Chaplains to the University, we work as integral members of the community but are not employed by the University. We have an Associate status in the University structure and come within Student Life and Wellbeing.
The Chaplaincy in York is deliberately ecumenical, which means we work together, as part of one team. In 1998, the Anglican, Methodist, and Roman Catholic Churches signed an agreement which commits the full-time Christian Chaplains to working in a creative partnership. We believe that it’s very important to show that people of different beliefs and backgrounds can choose to work together– and enjoy it!

As Christian chaplains to the University:
- we maintain a regular presence of Christian prayer, worship, and witness within the University community
- we are here in times of joy and sadness for the whole campus community
- we are committed to a loving and inclusive acceptance of people of all faiths and none
- we believe in sharing an open, honest and respectful dialogue with one another
- we enter into dialogue and conversation with the institution and celebrate the search for truth with integrity
- we provide confidential pastoral care for students and staff alike
- you don't have to be a Christian, or to belong to any specific denomination, to be part of chaplaincy. All are welcome.
