Help & Support
Whilst the full-time Chaplains are not employed by the University we work very closely with colleagues in all sorts of areas. A regular part of our work is to signpost students and staff to places where they can find help or advice. Below are some you may find helpful.
Chaplaincy
You would expect chaplains to have something to do with religion and faith and so we do. We also do a lot more than lead worship on or around campus. We have the advantage of being time-rich and can often give more time and space to students and staff than is possible in other contexts. Not being employed by the University gives us an extra degree of independence. It is not our role to convert or push you or others into a certain way of thinking or believing. We are open to any conversation where the person we are in conversation with sets the agenda. Most especially we don't judge.
College Welfare Teams
Each of the colleges at York has its own welfare team and structure. Welfare reps receive training and they are an excellent first point of contact especially if you need to discuss something concerned with college life.
Equality and Diversity Office

LGBTQ+
Experience has shown that whilst many students come to university knowing that they will find a welcome in Chaplaincy, very many LGBTQ students come having heard a message that they are either not welcome at all, or are only welcome if...
Whatever your past experience, or your expectation of the church, we want to speak clearly and with a united voice as Christian Chaplains. All students and staff are simply welcome, with no pre-conditions and no hoops to jump through. We seek to respect, value and celebrate everyone as the unique person they are.
