York University generally has three full time chaplains, Catholic, Methodist and Anglican.
Chaplains are not employed by the University but each one is sponsored by their own denomination as a sign of the Churches' commitment to the value of higher education and the importance of those who are engaged in it.
Since 1998 Chaplaincy at the University of York has been formed and informed by the Chaplaincy Covenant. This deceptively simple document has opened the way to a creative partnership with a real commitment to work together and share whatever is possible. This agreement, which has been signed by successive Chaplains and signed and re-signed by our denominational leaders, demonstrates what is possible. Click on the link below to see what we stand for.
